Snowboard Tripytch

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Project: Tripytch Design
Purpose: Senior Thesis Project
Year: 2023

Goals and Objective

The main objective of this design project was to develop three separate and distinct designs that blend perfectly while maintaining a consistent and unified theme.

Research + Planning

I used a mind map to sort out my ideas on what I believe is crucial for snowboard design. Some of the factors I considered were the graphic styles, board shape, and the type of mountain terrain.

Mood Board

Sketches

Although not mandatory, it was recommended that the triptych conveys a message. I contemplated various messages and decided on three themes. The initial set focuses on the threatened wildlife in Yellowstone National Park. The second set incorporates sacred geometry, meditation, and self-healing. The final set narrates the tale of curiosity, exploration, and discovery in space.

Mind Map

A mood board was vital in my endeavor to clearly define and delineate the specific graphic styles - punk, grunge, geometric, and natural. Each possesses unique attributes and characteristics that will enhance my project's overall aesthetic.

First Draft

The initial draft centered around the concept of space exploration, narrating a tale of inquisitiveness, discovery, and adventure. In the lower panel, two individuals gaze into space with awe and fascination, eager to discover the unknown. The middle panel depicts an astronaut drifting through space, uncertain of what lies ahead. Finally, the uppermost panel mirrors the bottom, with an astronaut gazing at Earth from the moon and reflecting on all the new knowledge he has gained.

Final Designs

I used the ideas and images from my mood board to create the final designs. I added a glitching effect to show the challenges of exploring space and to make it look futuristic. The shapes in the design represent progress, innovation, and the connection between technology and people. I changed one part of the design to clarify that people are looking into space. I replaced the image with an astronaut and his helmet on the ground, which connects all three panels.
